How to upload a game

Preparing your files

• Pack the whole game into a single zip file. index.html must be at the top level of the zip (or inside a single top-level folder).
• Load images, sounds, and scripts with relative paths (like img/door.png). Addresses starting with / won't work.
• Limits: 50 MB per zip, 1,000 files, 200 MB unzipped.
• Allowed files: HTML, JS, CSS, JSON, images (PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, SVG, AVIF), audio (MP3, OGG, WAV, M4A), video (MP4, WebM), fonts, WASM, and 3D models (glTF, GLB).

Screen and controls

• Make it fit the screen so it works both on a phone held upright and on a computer.
• Make it playable with both touch and a mouse.

Where your game runs

• Your game runs in a safe frame on a different address from the PlayEscape site. Pop-ups, new windows, navigating to other pages, and file downloads are blocked.
• Don't ask for logins, payments, or personal information, and don't send players' information to outside servers.

Saving progress (optional)

Add the PlayEscape SDK to save progress in the player's browser so they can pick up where they left off. When they escape, their time and hint count are recorded too.

Review guidelines

We play every uploaded game before making it public. Games like these won't be approved:

• Games that can't be finished or whose screens break
• Sexual content, excessive violence, or hateful or discriminatory content
• Games that use someone else's game, art, music, or characters without permission
• Ads, links leading to other sites, or requests for payment or personal information
• Code that harms players' devices or information

Editing and removing

You can edit or delete your games anytime in My uploads. Edits go through review again.
